Yarrr, I missed it again. (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

Every year, I look forward to annoying colleagues, pedestrians, and service workers on International Talk Like a Pirate Day, which falls without fail on September 19. Every year, without fail, I realize on September 20th, usually thanks to the Buzz Out Loud tech podcast, that I’ve missed another golden opportunity to geek it up.

This is probably why normal people use calendars. To that end, I will forthwith note the day on Google Calendar, iCal, and every other conceivable productivity software I can find installed on my computer. I should probably also set up SMS text-message reminders to ensure I never miss the chance to talk like a pirate.

Boy, if these are the sorts of things I’m complaining about nowadays, things are looking up!

Weekend Catchup (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

Hello gang,

It’s been a hectic week at work. Nothing of seismic proportions, just a hundred little tasks all circling the wagons with bright torches demanding my immediate attention.

The results of my poll on my old blog indicated that readers were interested in where I’m working. So here goes.

I’m doing IT support, office administration, marketing, and even an occasional smidge of writing and editing for a startup magazine called Recovery Living, which, when it launches in Spring of 2009, will be a lifestyle magazine dedicated to supporting people in recovery from all manner of addictions. The magazine isn’t a clinical discussion of addiction therapy and treatment. Rather, it’s meant to fill out the toolbox of people rejoining the “real world” after coming to grips with the dark specter of addictive diseases.

While twelve-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous are the best-known avenue of addiction recovery, the magazine by no means intends to limit itself to catering to the twelve-step community. It’s much more mainstream than that. If all goes according to plan, you’ll be seeing the glossy covers of Recovery Living gracing the big-time newsstands and bookstores next Spring or Summer.

I haven’t talked much about my own experiences with addiction, both personally and in my inner circle of family and friends. I don’t think I’ll go into great detail on this public forum, but I’m more than happy to discuss it with folks one-on-one.

In other news, this blog’s new-founded sister site AzureScape is seeing its first tidbits of content. I’ve given first impressions to a couple books I’ve started reading, with the promise of reviews coming in the next couple weeks. I hope to at some point soon also revive my fledgeling Fantasy Writer’s Weekly podcast, but time is scarce in my life these days.

Thanks for bearing with me. Check back soon!

Reboot (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

Given the toxic stew of malware that seems to have invaded my blog, I’ve decided to start anew. My blog as it was chronicled my (mis)adventures in Oxford. That era of my life has come to an end. So it’s perhaps fitting that I start with a “blank page”. This tabula rasa will in time be filled with even more exciting thoughts and stories. Primed and ready!

Posting from iPod (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

I’m testing the WordPress application for the iPod Touch. Nothing like blogging from bed.

Since typing on this thing is laborious though, I’m going to keep this short. Good night!

In Brief (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

Since I’ve restarted this blog, it behooves me to update it I suppose.

My day started with a personal training session at Equinox. The session involved a full body workout, and the trainer was pretty knowledgeable and seemed to know when to push me and when to have mercy. I’ll likely feel the pain tomorrow.

At work I was transcribing interviews, a tedious but interesting job. My work environment really is pleasant. More on that later.

A branch of the upscale supermarket Whole Foods has opened near me, and my mom was kind enough to give me a whirlwind tour of the place this evening. Its scale is frightening, even for a fully-sighted person, and it’s easy to become bewildered. I feel like I can walk in there and get my bearings pretty quickly now, though. And when all else fails, there’s the friendly Customer Service desk.

And now I must to bed, so I can rise early and hit the gym again. But more details will be forthcoming!

Adieu!

Fork (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

Henceforth, this blog will pertain only to my personal life. Most of my book reviews, movie reviews, and rants on the state of literature in general will now appear on AzureScape.net. Since AzureScape is primarily oriented towards fantasy and science fiction, reviews for media in other genres may still appear here. By and large, though, the personal and the professional will be separated. I hope you’ll all continue to follow both tines with interest.

Be well.

?Testing? (The Life and Times of Seth Wilson)

This is just a paper-thin sugary test post to see if something works. Meatier posts of higher nutrition coming soon!
