Famous People and Sometimes Me

Here's a weird grab bag of photos dating back many many decades.

On the top, left to right, we have two shots I took with a disposable camera of an early Red Hot Chili Peppers show. Flea is first, followed by Anthony Kiedis and Hillel Slovak, a guitar player I loved not only for his style, but because he was born within 24 hours of me. Same year, less than one day later. Aries brother! R.I.P.
Next is Kim Colleta of Jawbox, standing with her bass in the hallway at WHFS, against the very famous autograph wall. They were recording songs on a weekend for Dave Marsh's Garage. Nice kids. J.Robbins has a recording studio very close to the building I work in now, in Baltimore.

2nd row, it's Eric Bachmann of Archers of Loaf, backstage at a mid-90s Reading Festival. It was during my "disposable camera/give me the finger" period of rockstar photography.
Moving to the right, I'm interviewing Justine Frischmann of Elastica at a very hot and dusty Lollapalooza stop.

Bottom row: Gwen Stefani outside of her dressing room door at an HFStival appearance at RFK Stadium.
Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies flank Melissa and my friend and bandmate Pat Ferrise. (I was a member of his band Trampoline, and he was a member of my band Cinnamon Toast.)
Last but not least is a shot of me with Noel Gallagher of Oasis. I wore my Coca-Cola shirt hoping it would seem ironic in photographs. Because, well, Noel and I bonded over a love of the drink.
This was an interview that he wanted a copy of, and ended up using pieces of on their Oasis Interview CD that only came as an extra exclusively included with their Singles box set.

JOHN FRUSCIANTE to release The Empyrean on Record Collection 1.20.2009 (RedHotChiliPeppers.com . ...

Friends and Fans,

The Empyrean is my new record and will be released worldwide via Record Collection on January 20th 2009. It was recorded on and off between December 2006 and March 2008.  It is a concept record that tells a single story both musically and lyrically. The story takes place within one person, and there are two characters. It contains a version of Tim Buckleys, 'Song To The Siren' and the rest of the songs are written by me. My friend Josh plays on it, as does Flea. It also features Sonus Quartet, Johnny Marr and The New Dimension Singers. I'm really happy with it and I've listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides. It should be played as loud as possible and it is suited to dark living rooms late at night.

1. Before The Beginning

It is the same type of cancer Senator Edward M. Kennedy is battling. Shellenberger is under the care of world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Hunt at the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute where he is pursuing radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Despite the news, Allen is in good spirits and committed to the fight.

After two decades together, the band continues to write, record and tour. "Allen's young and healthy and if anyone has a chance to beat this, it's him," says Lit guitarist Jeremy Popoff. Anthony Kiedis developing series for HBO (RedHotChiliPeppers.com . What's New)

based on his youth in LA

Kiedis' rock memoir heading to HBO

Cabler has taste for Red Hot Chili
Peppers

By
MICHAEL SCHNEIDER Daily Variety

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman
Anthony Kiedis is developing a series for HBO based on his unconventional, rock
'n' roll childhood.

Kiedis has partnered with Catapult
360 partners Marc Abrams and Michael Benson to create the series, tentatively
titled "Scar Tissue."

Abrams and Benson are scouting for a
writer to pen the script, which will center on Kiedis' relationship with his
father, Spider, who sold drugs and mingled with rock stars on the Sunset Strip,
all while aspiring to get into showbiz.

The show will begin with young
Kiedis moving from Grand Rapids, Mich., to West Hollywood to live with his dad.
But Kiedis' father, having been raised in a tyrannical household, decided to go
to the other extreme.

"He introduced me to the arts,
to a more culturally magnificent life," Kiedis told Daily Variety.

"But some of it was this
heavy, adult matter that I wasn't quite capable of digesting. ... It was a very
rich but kind of challenging period of my life. I was thrust into this adult
mentality by age 11."

Catapult 360 contacted Kiedis after
Benson read the singer's autobiography, also titled "Scar Tissue."
(Show is not based on the book, however, which focused more on Kiedis' life as
a rock star.) Abrams and Benson sat down with Kiedis, who told them he wrote
the memoir specifically to express himself on his early experiences with his
father.

"To be able to look at a very
famous figure and get an origin story, to see the pieces of the puzzle that put
him on the path to fame -- it became very clear that this was a special
project," Abrams said.

The show will also center on West
Hollywood and Los Angeles in the early 1970s, including the rock stars
encountered by Kiedis and his father (who, according to lore, was a drug dealer
for the Who and Led Zeppelin, among others).

Kiedis plans to be heavily involved
in the project and is regularly corresponding with his father, who now lives in
Portland, to record memories of their life 30 years ago on Palm Avenue in West
Hollywood.

"I love mulling over all this
raw material," he said. "(My father's) into it too. He sees it as our
last great hurrah. For us to be reconnecting to construct these memories -- the
women and the rock bands and the doormen of these clubs -- is exciting."

Kiedis also is mulling the
possibility of narrating the show (which is being developed as an hourlong
drama with comedic elements) and even making cameos from time to time.

As for Abrams and Benson, the
project reps their first major splash since parting ways with NBC, where they'd
exec produced the comedy pilot "Zip." (NBC parted with the duo partly
because of Abrams' relationship with Peacock exec veep Teri Weinberg).

Peabody winners Abrams and Benson,
whose credits include "The Bernie Mac Show" and
"Entourage," founded Catapult 360 in 2006.

Abrams, Benson and Kiedis will exec
produce "Scar Tissue" along with Untitled Entertainment's Jason
Weinberg. Also attached is Untitled's Laura Rister.
